Andrew Kerr in full action
A water polo enthusiast from the age of 14 at the Gunnamatta Bay Baths, Andrew Kerr began playing first grade for Cronulla Amateur Swimming Club at 16. In 1971 he captained Combined High Schools and the NSW Under-17 year teams and in 1972 he captained the NSW Under-18 team to victory in the national titles. In 1973 Andrew was selected for the NSW Open team, which won competitions 10 years in a row. He was member of that team for 17 years during which time it won an unprecedented 13 Australian championships. Andrew was captain five times.  Living up to his nickname, ‘Acre’ (A. Kerr), at 196cm (6’ 5”), Andrew first capped for Australia in 1975 and remained until his retirement in 1989. He made ten European tours, four North American tours, represented Australia in four Olympics – 1976, 1980, 1984 and 1988 – and played in the 1975, 1978, 1982 and 1986 World Championships.

At the 1978 World Championships he was named in the World team after finishing as second highest goal scorer, with Australia gaining their best result, until 1991, of 9th place. Andrew has a total 470 caps playing for Australia. The "Path of champions" plaque dedicated to Andrew Kerr at the entrance of the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.
